Jesse’s Story

Growing up with parents in the music industry, Jesse did not have a normal childhood experience. Since he was 5 years-old, he played music, toured, and changed schools constantly. After learning bass from his Dad, he fell in love with it and knew that’s what he wanted to do. But schooling was difficult playing in a band and traveling.

Jesse’s family always supported his love of music but they also placed a lot of importance on his education.

“We told him that just because you are a musician doesn’t mean you aren’t going to school,” said Jesse’s mom. “Education is key because when traveling the world he meets people from all over and he can’t sit there, not have a voice, not be educated and not know what’s going on.”

But, being a musician and traveling so much meant that Jesse’s schedule was frantic. It was very hard for him to go to school, do his homework and go to classes like other kids. He was homeschooled for a time but it just didn’t’ fit his schedule so he enrolled at Learn4Life.

“When I came to Learn4Life, the schedule was just so much better,” said Jesse. “It’s easier for my schedule, it works great and they are very easy to work with at Learn4Life. I’ve been to public school, I’ve been homeschooled and at Learn4Life the difference is monumental.”

Jesse was able to go to school and earn his high school diploma by working with his teacher who understood who he was, what his hopes and dreams were and developed a learning plan that fit his schedule. “My teacher was easy to work with, walked me through my classes, and showed me how the school worked. I could talk to her and she was very welcoming. The communication was great,” commented Jesse.

According to Jesse’s Dad, “school for me was miserable so when my kids came to me and said they didn’t like school, I understood because I felt the same way about school. When Learn4Life came along, it was like ‘these people get it.’ They could manifest the concept that each kid is different and has different needs and they work with them and mold them under the parameters of who they are as individuals. Learn4Life really has a grasp on that. When we went and toured the whole facility, it didn’t feel like how I remember school, which was a penitentiary. It felt very free and everyone was pleasant. It didn’t have that angst or spirit of stress that accommodates school.”

Learn4Life helped Jesse reach his goal and change his story by allowing him the opportunity to do what he loves.
